Ethiopia had several earthquakes on Saturday, including a strong one with a 5.8 magnitude. This has caused panic and people are leaving their homes in the northern parts of the country. The quakes hit rural areas in Afar, Oromia, and Amhara after months of increased earthquake activity. The government says about 2,000 people have already been displaced, and they are working to provide shelter for those in need among the 80,000 affected people. Officials warned that earthquakes are happening more often and getting stronger. Experts have been sent to check the damage. The most recent quake, measuring 4.7, happened near Metehara in Oromia just before noon. People are also worried about a possible volcanic eruption at Mount Dofan in the Afar region. Though the volcano has stopped releasing smoke, many residents have fled in fear. Ethiopia sits on the Great Rift Valley, a very active earthquake zone.
